The Red Baron Car Wash was built by and is operated by Idalou residents, Tim and Trudi Adams. Tim and Trudi have one son, Clint, who is a fireman on the Lubbock Fire Department. Trudi is a hairdresser in Lubbock, while Tim has worked for the family roof equipment manufacturing business for 28 years.

Previous car wash experience includes building and operating the Mirage Car Wash in Crosbyton in 1997, and operating the Ralls Car Wash. The Crosbyton and Ralls car washes were sold prior to building the Red Baron.

Why Red Baron? Tim has been an aviation buff since he was a kid growing up on a farm in Dodge City, Kansas. He used to sit on the roof of their barn and watch the contrails from jets flying high overhead, imagining all the exciting places they might be going. Tim's dad was a pilot and Tim spent a good bit of time riding with him in small airplanes.

In 1986 Tim received his Private Pilot license, having taken his flight training in Lubbock and Slaton.

The Red Baron Car Wash was a way to combine Tim's love for aviation with a business he enjoys.

Watch for more aviation-related stuff to be added to the Red Baron in coming months.

Here are a few pics of ultralight aircraft Tim used to fly. Click image for a larger view.

Video

Click above to see a video of Tim crowhopping a Challenger ultralight after he stripped the wings off and installed a boxed wingtip kit, circa 1998. Gotta make sure all the important nuts & bolts got put back on before taking flight.
